Disability? Accessibility!
This blog is going to explore various disabilities, problems that might be faced by the disabled, and ways to overcome those problems. I intend to talk about products and services available to those who are disabled, and hopefully bring awareness to everyone about what disabled people may or may not be able to do, in some semblance of reality. What you see on television, what you see in the news, is generally like ’super-gimp’ who can do everything, or someone so disabled they are essentially helpless. The reality is almost always somewhere in between, and there really aren’t any two disabled people or experiences with disabilities that are the same. I want to help the world understand that with the right equipment and the right assistance, disabled people can be happier and more productive, but mostly, disabled people just want to be viewed as people.
I am disabled. I am choosing not to go into detail on my own problems, but I am not supergimp. I am not a “productive member of society,” and due to my particular issues, I may not ever BE a “productive member of society.” But I do want to live my life to the best of my ability, and be the best person I can be. I want this page to be about people like me. People that won’t necessarily acheive greatness, but with the right equipment, services, and assistance, might acheive “basically okay.”
I hope that you’ll keep reading my blog. Let me teach you about disability, and more, about accessibility. This blog is directed toward everyone: disabled people in body/mind; their friends, family and caretakers; and able-bodied/minded alike.
Stay tuned tomorrow, for “Website Accessibility.”
